SN Conferences & Workshops

Second Nature workshops are always tailor-made to reflect the specific needs of the particular audience. At the same time, what distinguishes almost all SN workshops is their unique inclusion of case studies of innovation and best practices from other academic, business and public institutions. As a result of twelve years of designing and delivering EFS workshops, we have developed groundbreaking and state-of-the-art events.

Since 1993, Second Nature has worked with over 4,000 faculty and administrators at more than 500 colleges and universities to help make sustainability the foundation of all learning, practice, and collaboration with local communities, including:

  • 32 On-site Workshops at colleges and universities involving 650 leaders

  • 14 Partnership Workshops involving a total of 750 leaders from 150 higher education institutions

  • 8 Regional Workshops involving participants from 12-15 institutions per workshop, for a total of over 500 leaders from 100 institutions

SN Workshops focus on concerns or projects specific to an individual institution or association of schools. Second Nature and the client school/s co-design and facilitate the workshops to serve specific identified needs, including topics as wide-ranging as teaching sustainability across the curriculum, reducing the ecological footprint of the institutions, and strategies for helping to improve local communities. They provide and encourage information-sharing of proven models implemented by educators, administrators, and operations departments.

Our most effective workshops extend over a multi-year period, with content deepening through the duration of the relationship, and they are often designed to equip leaders from client school(s) with the practical skills and resources to catalyze and accelerate sustainability programs at their institutions.

Two particularly successful workshops are:
