Vanessa Santos, Intern - Advancing Green Building Initiative
 Vanessa is a senior at Boston University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, with a concentration in environment and development in Latin America. Her interest in development and sustainability issues grew exponentially during her study abroad experience in Quito, Ecuador from September to December 2009, where she became fluent in Spanish and taught English to members of the indigenous community at the nonprofit organization Hanns Seidel.
As an undergraduate at Boston University, Vanessa has found ways of expressing herself through her journalism experience. She has interned at a statewide Connecticut newspaper and has also been a staff writer, assignment editor and business editor for the student-run university newspaper, The Daily Free Press, where she wrote about issues ranging from the environment and sustainability to business and economics.
As an intern, Vanessa hopes to combine her skills and passions to work with the Second Nature team on the Advancing Green Building Initiative. She strongly believes in both the short-term environmental benefits of the initiative as well as its long-term potential to affect policies that will move us toward a cleaner and more socially just world.
