Michelle Dyer, Chief Operating Officer of Second Nature

As Chief Operating Officer, Michelle Dyer leads strategic planning and operations for Second Nature, manages the twenty-member team, and represents the organization at speaking engagements around the United States. In addition to her duties as Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Dyer is an ex-officio member of the board, serving as Clerk and sitting on the board finance committee.

Ms. Dyer has fifteen years of experience in management consulting and project management, specializing in transformational change and negotiation in the energy, health, higher education and entertainment (film, television, and music) industries.

Before joining Second Nature, Ms. Dyer was a founding partner of Greenland Enterprises, a strategic sustainability consultancy firm. Prior to founding Greenland Enterprises, she worked in the energy sector, and was part of a team that negotiated an amended $1 billion outsourcing deal between BC Hydro, one of the largest electric utilities in Canada, and Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing firm. She also worked on the re-structuring of BC Hydro's transmission line of business, a project which created a new organization to manage a $3 billion, 500kV bulk transmission system.

Ms. Dyer is a member of the National Expert Advisory Board of the Green Schools Alliance, an Issues Expert for the Global Philanthropy Group, and serves on the Green Advisory Council of TSG Real Estate’s Green Realty Trust, which has registered an offering with the SEC for the first all-green real estate investment trust. She is a member of the City of Gloucester (MA) Clean Energy Commission; the Society for Organizational Learning’s Sustainability Consortium; and a volunteer for Stratleade Sustainability Education.

Ms. Dyer’s graduate research focused on carbon reduction projects under the Kyoto Protocol and EU Emissions Trading Scheme, and she holds a Master of Science (Strategic Leadership toward Sustainability) from Blekinge Institute of Technology in Karlskrona, Sweden, and a Bachelor of Arts (Art and Culture Studies) from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. Ms.Dyer lives in Gloucester, MA with her husband Georges and dog Kol. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening and trapeze training.
